This is an epic love story.

You were everything.
Did I tell you that?
You lived under my
skin and took over
all sense and reason.
Did I tell you that enough?

She was glued to his hip.
She began acting like him.

I love you.
The way you dressed
The way you smelled
The way you parted your hair
The way you smiled
The way y—

She, maybe, even wanted to be him.
Concern—for him—grew.

—ou placed your toothbrush on my sink, always slanted

to the right

The way you shower with the curtain

slightly open

The way you always took your time shedding clothes, shoes, and bags at the door
the way you scratched the back of your ear when you were hungry

She disappeared.
She became a man, rumors say.

The way you avoided people’s eyes when you know knew no one in the room, the way
you didn’t know math very well and always ask the simplest questions
the way you forget forgot words after watching happy movies, but,
could talk on and on about sad movies,
the way you
write poems
with random breaks in lines and
no punctuation

He was the love of her life.
He was her life.
But… some claim he didn’t know her.
Not truly.

the way you love the clouds when they bring night in early
the way you sometimes leave the door open after you leave the house the way you
never listen to me when i tell you you’re wrong the way you smile at me when you’re not paying
attention the way you scrunch your nose at oranges and spinach—

now i scrunch my nose too

—the way people don’t see you the way i do

We don’t know where she went when he died.
How could she live without him?
